DESCRIPTION:The Rutherford County Library System presents Revolutionary Rutherford\, a 5-panel traveling exhibit that will premiere at Linebaugh Public Library\non Saturday\, May 30\, through July 13. \nThis exhibit was made possible by funding through the Tennessee America 250 Commission and Middle Tennessee State University Honors College\,\nand its grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The panels were developed by the Rutherford County Library System and the Rutherford County Archives. The exhibit will be available to travel to different institutions throughout the country to celebrate America 250 and Rutherford County’s history. DESCRIPTION:This summer\, as we celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States of America and the 50th anniversary of Cannonsburgh\, the village will be full of patriotic decorations showing its American spirit. During the months of June and July\, celebrate American pride as you experience the history\, culture\, and heritage of our nation during a visit to Cannonsburgh Village. Blacksmith demonstrations will take place on Thursdays from 9am-12pm and the Murfreesboro Art League Gallery will open every Saturday and Sunday. Pop-up activities and planned programs will be available for visitors of all ages during regular hours and will be announced on our website https://www.murfreesborotn.gov/164/Cannonsburgh-Village and the Cannonsburgh Village Facebook page. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the nation’s founding through a local lens with the Middle Tennessee State University Honors College’s “Lunch and Learn” Series at Cannonsburgh Village\, in the Murfreesboro Jaycees building\, part of the University’s ongoing commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary. Attendees should bring their own lunches to enjoy during the sessions. \nFrom June 30 through July 3\, faculty experts will explore the ideas\, conflicts\, and cultural expressions that shaped the American Revolution and its enduring impact. Each session takes place from noon to 1 p.m.\, offering a convenient opportunity for community members\, students\, and history enthusiasts to engage with timely scholarship in a relaxed\, historic setting. \nIn addition\, Honors College Dean John Vile will feature a historical exhibit in the Jaycees building throughout June and July\, providing visitors with an extended opportunity to explore artifacts and interpretations connected to America’s founding era. \n\nWednesday\, July 1: Andrew Maginn broadens the perspective with a comparative look at the United States and Haiti as revolutionary republics.\nThursday\, July 2: Robb McDaniel examines the development of abolitionist thought before and after the Revolution.\nFriday\, July 3: Angela Tipps concludes the series by highlighting how music has shaped and expressed the ideals of liberty.\n\nHosted at Cannonsburgh Village\, a site dedicated to preserving local history\, this series connects national milestones to regional stories and lived experiences. These conversations reflect the spirit of America 250\, which highlights the university’s role in fostering civic dialogue\, historical understanding\, and public engagement as the country approaches its semiquincentennial. \nJoin us for one session or attend them all and be part of a meaningful exploration of America’s past and its continuing legacy.
